Item Details

Tiny and charming early C19th watercolour of a little girl in a white muslin and lace dress with a blue sash, holding a little posy of roses

Most babies and little children wore white as this was so much easier to launder

Before the early 20th century, it was common for mothers to dress boys in a 'masculine' colour like pink in order to grow into a more manly individual later in life.

Girls were often dressed in a more 'feminine' alternative like blue.

In the early 20th century this was reversed

Framed in a stained pine frame

In very good condition
