Charming unfinished watercolour of a 'Papilio Semperi', with pencil annotations


A species of butterfly found in Indonesia,Malaysia and the Philippines,


They normally have a wingspan of 12-15cm.


This is the colouring of a male


Early 19th century, initialled AL


 


In a later gilt frame


Some slight staining on the paper
