https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/greencore-designA large, characterful 19th century antique stone planter on pedestal, hand carved from solid sandstone and beautifully weathered through age and outdoor use. Its established natural patina gives the piece an authentic timeworn appearance, bringing immediate presence to both new and mature garden settings.
The planter offers good planting depth of approximately 20cm / 8 inches. There are no drainage holes, allowing it to be used as a water feature or bird bath if desired, although drainage holes could be added as required.
The organic surface of softened sandstone, with areas of moss and lichen, provides an excellent backdrop for foliage, flowers or architectural planting.
Of very good scale at just over 4ft long, the trough sits on pedestal feet that elevate its form and enhance its presence. It has the substance and visual weight needed to anchor a garden border, courtyard, terrace or entrance setting.
Despite its age, this sturdy stone planter remains in excellent sound condition. The surface wear, moss and lichen are all part of its appeal, giving the planter a beautiful wabi sabi look.
Ideal for adding texture, age and authenticity to a garden design, this antique sandstone trough sits naturally within established planting schemes, period gardens and landscape projects.
Overall size: L129cm / 51 inches x H50cm / 20 inches including pedestal feet. Internal carved depth approximately 20cm / 8 inches.
Origin and period: Original English Garden 19th century hand carved sandstone garden planter, circa 1860s.
