A handsome pair of large antique red sandstone monolith pillar staddle stone garden stones, dating to the 19th century and having survived over 200 years of use. Naturally weathered over time, the sandstone has developed a lovely patina with lichen, moss and surface variation that enhances its age, texture and character. These authentic garden pieces would sit beautifully within an established setting, while also adding instant maturity and atmosphere to newer landscape schemes.


Their honest surface, strong scale and understated design allow them to work across traditional country gardens, formal landscapes, courtyard settings and more contemporary outdoor schemes, including those inspired by the wabi-sabi aesthetic and its appreciation for age, imperfection and natural beauty. The pair could be used to flank a doorway, gateway, path or bench area, or placed amongst planting beds as architectural accents.


Carved from historic UK red sandstone, the iconic centuries-old bedrock associated with regions such as Chester and Herefordshire, they bring a warm natural colour and a strong sense of place to the garden.
