https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/grovetraderHere we have black and white and sepia tone photographs of seven early to mid 20th century French boxers in a black wooden frame. One of the photographs is hand signed as a souvenir by boxer Assane Diouf (1908-1963), a Senegalese - French professional boxer who in his career achieved many French Middleweight and Light Heavyweight championships. He later went on to own a bar in Paris.
Two other boxers included are named on their photographs. They are:
Marcellin "Marcel" Cerdan (1916-1949), an Algerian - French professional boxer. He achieved world middleweight champion and was considered by many boxing experts and fans to be France's greatest boxer.
Francis Charles, middleweight boxer from Alfortville, France was a professional boxer from 1911 to 1927. He had 83 professional fights and 662 rounds. In 1928 Charles became totally blind after a fight. A benefit show held for him at Montmartre in 1930 featured Josephine Baker and Maurice Chevalier.
There are two who have names on the reverse of the photographs as seen in pictures on our website and two have no identification. Further research perhaps!
Altogether a nicely framed piece of sporting memorabilia.
