This tin RAC (Royal Automobile Club) road map dates to the 1960s and depicts a wonderfully detailed map of England, Wales and 'the lowlands of Scotland'. Produced by John Bartholomew & Son Ltd in Edinburgh it's lithographically printed tin with a clear plastic coating. 


 


Over the decades the plastic coating has yellowed and rust has leeched through the tin causing discolouration on the surface, but in this instance it services to create the sort of vintage aesthetic that just can't be replicated without impacting on the legibility of the sign. 


 


A decent example of a rare survivor this piece measures 60cm high x 45cm wide.
