Item Details

The British Empire Trophy was a motor race in the UK. Since its inception in 1932, the Empire Trophy was hosted at five different circuits and awarded for eleven separate racing categories. The race was run a total of 44 times, spanning over eight decades, making it one of the longest running and most prestigious racing events.


This particular poster was for the race that took part at Donington Park on Saturday 4th April 1936. The artwork is by Jack Starr and this particular poster has been described as 'world famous' by Sothebys. Few original examples exist and those that do have fetched strong money in auction over the years. This is an original example; is has it's original postal folds alongside creases, some water marking in the upper right and two missing sections in the lower right. Condition isn't perfect, but it still presents well with strong colours and those incredibly punchy graphics.


According to the sticker on the reverse, it was framed in 2009 - professionally done and remains in decent order. It's ready to hang.


It measures 64.5cm high x 45.5cm wide x 1.5cm deep.
