Item Details

Here we have a very good example of a Greensmith's Derby Dog Biscuits advertising showcard. These showcards aren't the rarest of things; it's my understanding that a quantity of undistributed examples were found some years back - the initial haul ended up amongst collectors etc but examples return to the market from time to time. What it lacks in rarity it makes up for in the sheer brilliance of the design; the illustration for this showcard is equal parts bizarre and incredible with fantastic levels of detail.

T. C. Greensmith & Co were flower millers and corn merchants, but as evidenced by this piece they also produced dog biscuits (presumably a nicely marketed by-product).

This showcard dates to the turn of the century and was produced by R. Allen & Son Ltd - lithographic printers based in Nottingham, England.

As mentioned previously, this showcard was never distributed; spending it's life stored away has preserved the piece beautifully with vibrant colours. There's a slight yellowing and some scuffs / marks around the outer edges but other than that, it's in good condition. It can be hung using it's original string and it displays nice and flat.

It measures 60.5cm (2ft) wide x 47.5cm high.
