To the reverse we have the following inscription, probably written as instructions by the College of Arms to the artist of the piece;
"The Armorial Ensigns of Sparrow Hanbury impaling those of Rogers, to be used by William Marden(?) Sparrow Esq. & Alice his wife, daughter of Thomas Rogers Esq. Windsor Herald"
The achievement is painted in polychrome with extensive gilt highlighting and bears the motto “IN DEO SOLO SALUS EST” - “In God alone is salvation”, a motto associated with the Sparrow family.
Mounted in a period, carved ebonised and gilded wooden frame. At a later stage the rear board / panel has been replaced with glass so that the inscription to the reverse can be seen.
English, late Georgian period, circa 1790–1810.
The piece measures 30.5cm high x 25.5cm wide x 2.6cm deep.
