Item Details

An iconic shape; the loudhailer / megaphone supposedly dates back to the Ancient Greeks and it's form and function have remained about the same through to the 1960s, when the voice-powered acoustic megaphone (like this one) was replaced by the electric megaphone... Used by everyone from army officers to lifeguards, protestors to singers this simple design was an incredibly effective one. This nicely made example probably dates to the early 20th century. Formed from brass, years exposed to the elements have allowed it to develop the most wonderful verdigris surface patination with a fantastic colour and pattern... The piece has some dings, dents and scratches commensurate with it's age; the most notable being a patch on the left-side near the mouth piece that looks like a larger dent was knocked out at some point, but all this add's to loudhailer's character. The megaphone measures 45.5cm in length, 19cm across at the widest point and 22cm high at the highest point.
