A wonderfully original piece - this professionally painted heraldic achievement is likely to originate from Belgium or Northern France and dates to around the 1850s.


Water-colour or gouache on paper, it's presented in its original rosewood frame. The reverse retains its original paper taping with two red wax seals, the lower bearing the same armorial achievement as depicted on the front. Inscribed in ink: "F. M. d'ALQUEN." The matching heraldic seal suggests ownership or commission by a member of the d'Alquen family.


The colours on this coat of arms remain lovely and vibrant, there's some wear around the outer edges of the frame but this is a very original piece that presents beautifully.


It measures 26.5cm high x 21cm wide x 2cm deep.
