A really charming, authentic piece; this mid-century, sign written decorator's trade sign would've been displayed by G. C. Swain & Co. of Gillingham. Judging from the styling and the four digit telephone number, this sign probably dates to the middle of the 20th century. It's been competently but simply sign-written and uses an effective mix of typography. It shows signs of it's age and of a life lived, there are areas of wear and of paint loss. Both the upper corners have been crudely notched - presumably to get it to fit between two posts or similar at some stage. Generally it's a charming piece that displays well. It measures 45cm high x 69cm wide and is 3.5cm deep.
