Item Details

An utterly charming thing, this double-sided, hand painted metal sign for Naomi / Langon would have originally slid into a book maker's board at a horse racing track... I think both sides of this metal name plate are Horse's names; there is a Langdon in Kent and Langdon Hills in Essex but no history (that I can find) of a race track at either.

Dating to around the 1900s, it has a fairly naive style of sign writing that gives it a folk-art feel. The painted surface has aged nicely; light scratches and surface corrosion that give it an authentic antique aesthetic without affecting its impact or legibility.

It measures 41cm wide x 9.5cm high.
