There's not a huge amount of information about the animal feed producers 'Old Calabar' available. It would seem that they were based in Liverpool, England and operated through the late 19th - early 20th centuries.
Most of the evidence for the company's existence comes in the form of advertising cigarette / trade cards and enamel signage like the above. This 3ft x 1ft format seems to be the most common though there are some variations and the advertised offering also seems to have slight variations though is generally something along the lines of dog / puppy biscuits / food and game / poultry food.
This sign is a good example of its type; fairly minimal losses and a nice surface gloss. It doesn't have a maker's mark, but has the thicker base plate / enamel layers typical of earlier enamel signage so I'd suggest that this is from the early 20th century - c.1920s.
I've mounted it to two wooden battens for ease of display / hanging but it could easily be removed from these and mounted directly to the wall. It displays well.
It measures 3ft / 91.5cm wide x 1ft / 30.5cm high.
