Item Description

A real rarity and a thing of beauty - this early Singer Sewing Machines enamel sign has a convex center section (the blue area) and is embellished by a Royal Warrant. The sign is very simple in it's design and very striking. The bulging center section is in an iconic blue and white colour-way, set against a yellow background. The Coat of Arms, bold and clear. The sign was produced by Mather and Crowther Ltd, London - an advertising agency who's work was particularly prominent around the turn of the century so I would guess at this sign being early 20th century, 1900s-1910s. It's survived the past century or so in good order, the yellow background enamel has lost it's gloss but the rest remains shiny. The more vulnerable raised section has picked up some surface scratches but only one small patch of enamel loss near the 'N' of Singer. There are a few areas of loss around the outer edges but generally the sign displays very well. It measures 51cm high x 38cm wide.
