https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/ljw-antiquesAround the mid-19th century, George Whybrow's "Wholesale Pickle Warehouse" was located at 4 Minories - which was in the Aldgate area of the City of London. It's almost inconceivable now that you could have industrial warehousing within the shadow of St Paul's Cathedral, but London has certainly changed over the past 170 or so years...
This decently sized (25.5cm high) two-tone, salt-glazed stoneware jar has G Whybrow's 'branding' stamped into the clay around the neck of the jar making an already useful, antique piece a whole lot more interesting.
It's survived the decades in very good order with one, fairly small chip to the rim (pictured) the only notable damage.
The jar measures 25.5cm high and the base is 18cm in diameter.
