This is an antique 3 draw telescope. An English, fruitwood and brass terrestrial refractor by H. Hughes, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.


Perfect for bird watching, landscape appreciation, wildlife, or maritime observation. Equally suitable for observing the night sky

  • Displays a desirable aged patina and good original order

  • Polished brass barrels show light golden hues and minimal tarnishing

  • Fruitwood primary barrel shows fine grain interest and a rich caramel colour



  • Of three draw type, drawing from a compact length of 18.5cm (7.25'')

  • When fully drawn, occupying a length of 55cm (21.75'')

  • Offers an objective diameter of 32mm (1.25'')

  • Eyepiece flared with turned rim detail and sliding dust cover



  • Replete with brass push-on dust cap

  • Engraving to the final barrel reads H. Hughes, 120 Fenchurch Street, London

  • Henry Hughes occupied the Fenchurch Street address between 1845 and 1855

  • Supplied with a London Fine oak and brass Captains Stand for display
