This is an antique ladies hobby table. An English, rosewood drop leaf sewing or parlour table, dating to the William IV period, circa 1835.


Fascinatingly appointed sewing table with wonderful William IV craftsmanship
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Superb stocks show excellent grain interest throughout
Warm caramel hues beam beneath a wax polish finish


Drop leaf top extends usefully, supported by articulated flying arms
Front drawer dressed with circular brass drop handles
Drawer fascia and wool box dressed with inset brass lined locks — untested, key absent
Interior offers a sliding divider tray, which can also be removed if required


Faux drawer fascia to the reverse affords central room placement
Sliding wool box accentuated with silk cotton upholstery in green and champagne hues
Darling pattern with silk cotton flowerheads catch the light beautifully
The pleasingly clean interior offering a generous storage space of 24cm (9.5'')


Support stand crafted in a U-shaped surround to the wool box
Column accentuated in relief with a superb acanthus and collar carving
Circular drum base hosts exquisite hairy paw feet of deep undulations
The whole riding smoothly upon a quartet of concealed castors
Unmarked as such, but of the quality and refinement expected of Gillows


This is a delightful antique ladies hobby table, as useful today as it was nearly 200 years ago. Beautifully appointed, the presentation and form of the table offers a wonderful addition to the household. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
