https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/london-fine-antiquesThis is a large antique partner's desk. An English, mahogany bureau Mazarin in Louis XIV taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
Of similar form and influence to Sir Robert Walpole's desk at Houghton Hall, Norfolk. Recognised as the first Prime Minister of Great Britain, this desk is still displayed in the library at the stately home he commissioned in 1722. The desk was crafted a year later.
Exceptional craftsmanship, with a superb visual appearance and generous form
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
Select mahogany stocks present fine grain interest and warm caramel hues
Of distinctive bureau Mazarin form, with eight broad legs united with long arch stretchers
Useful working height at 73cm or raised to 80.5cm with supplied later block feet
Superior proportion to the beautifully figured top at over 6' x 3'
True partner desk form with drawers to both sides — ideal for mid room placement

Each dressed with turned pulls and brass lock escutcheons — untested, keys absent
Drawer boxes belie the quality of the craftsmanship with deep fascia and deep dovetail joints
Large kneehole offers great comfort at a width and height of 66cm and 55.5cm respectively
Each leg accentuated with relief carvings of flowerheads and scroll motif
