Titled Woman at the Bath (also known as Woman Bathing or Yokujō no onna), a famous 1915 colour woodblock print by the Japanese shin-hanga artist Hashiguchi Goyō (1880–1921). His estate recreated the original woodblocks in the mid 20th century, after the originals were lost to fire shortly after his passing. v
Fine, official reproduction upon traditional woodblock washi paper
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good vintage order
Set within a chamfered later frame and mounted within black border card
Dressed with a brass hanging loop for ease of display
Presents a nude woman kneeling and crouching beside a red washbasin
She is shown to be wringing out a blue and white wash cloth
Upper corner hosts the artist's signature, and the red 'Trial Work' seal known as Shisaku
Hesitant to create such a work, it signified this was just an experiment, not his final artistic statement
This is a fascinating vintage figural woodblock print, being an official reproduction of the limited, 100 edition run of 1915, skilfully recreated into woodblock by the artist's estate. A treat for collectors of Japanese art. Delivered ready to display.
