Original Antique French Post Letter Mailbox


An original French metal post box with ‘Postes’ embossed on the front and the French postal service logos on the top, the post box is finished in yellow paint with a few historical layers underneath with the blue undercoat visible in places. These are a scarce find especially one retaining its original brass working lock and key. The box is embossed with the original makers mark Dejoie & Co Nates 1961, Dejoie Foundry started making mailboxes in 1949 after it relocated to Nantes from Brittany.


It is constructed from cast aluminium solid with two holes on the back to screw the box onto a wall or post. This is a wonderful practical post box or would make a great useable postbox or decorative piece inside or in a garden, shop.

Workshop Report: Overall good vintage condition, some wear and discolouration to the paint in places.
