1930's French Single Hoop Back Cane Seat Dining Chairs - Set Of Six. Classic beech single hoop back dining chairs made in France, this is a matched, not identical, set of six chairs. The process of steam bending beech to create elegant chairs was discovered and developed by Thonet, but when its patents expired in 1869 many companies including Fischel launched production. Fischel was founded in 1871 by Czech born David Gabriel Fischel, a successful vegetable oil merchant, using the first hand knowledge of his eldest son who had worked in one of Thonets Czech factories. First production was made in Germany in Niemes near the Danube. Later production moved to France in Alsace and sales offices were opened in most major French cities as Fischel became a major chair producer. The chairs do not have a makers mark but we believe them to be Fischel. These chairs date from the 1930's, a classic shape with a rich colour and character and a slim elegant back and the original cane all in good condition. Unusually the chairs have ply seats under the original cane so these are practical cane chairs where the often delicate cane is well supported. We service and wax each chair before it leaves our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality.
