The process of steam bending beech to create elegant chairs was discovered and developed by Thonet, but when its patents expired in 1869, many companies including Luterma launched production. Luterma was one of the brands marketed by Estonian factory A.M. Luther which was founded in the late 19th Century in Tallinn. Luther’s production was principally in Estonia but they also had factories in France for local market production. At the time of the Bauhaus movement Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer worked with the factory to develop various models. These chairs date from the 1950’s, a simple classic farmhouse shape with a beautiful colour and defined backs. This is a mixed set of chairs, all very very similar but with minor design differences in leg support detail, back width etc. A classic Luterma shape, this is perfect for the hospitality industry, great practical chairs. We service and rejuvenate each chair before it leaves our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality.
