This misty, atmospheric painting beautifully evokes the early morning at the dockyard. The muted palette creates an almost ethereal sense of peace, as the boats are reflected in the still water and the sun begins to shine through the lightly clouded sky.
Jose Pomes, born in 1940, paints scenes depicting life in his native Spain with superb skill and technique - from landscapes to cityscapes and interiors. A follower of the French impressionist Albert Marquet (1875-1947), the artist is known for his highly atmospheric and emotive works, often with moody skies or shadowy alcoves, but contrasted with vibrant splashes of mediterranean colour.
