French vintage part glazed stoneware confit jar. These stoneware containers were used to store meat such as duck and pork in fat (confit) in the days prior to refrigeration. They are made from heavy thick clay as they were designed to be stored outside so had to survive winter frosts. This pot is a beautiful deep, rich, earthy brown. It is part glazed and you can see unglazed parts at the base of the pot. Beautiful old rustic patina, this beautiful jar looks great as a stand alone centerpiece or maybe as a flower vase, artist studio vase, planter, there are just lots of uses. Essential farmhouse decor height 17 cm, width 15 cm , or approx 7" x 6" Condition - Signs of age and use. In good condition , remains in solid watertight and useable condition - see photos.
