This 19th Century painted Brandschrank/Housekeeper's cupboard, of tall architectural form, with moulded cornice above three tiers of storage, each fitted with a pair of recessed panelled doors with brass escutcheons, raised on a moulded plinth base. Decorated throughout in an attractive warm ochre painted finish , with distressed and worn areas lending the piece a pleasing country-house character. A German Brandschrank like this one is traditionally made up of separate, box-like sections , often stacked one above another . Each section has the original carrying side handles, allowing it to be lifted away and carried out of a building if a fire occurred. All three keys are working perfectly.
