An exceptional example of late Victorian/Edwardian folk art, this Tramp Art casket box features intricate, multi-layered chip-carved geometric pyramid borders. The dark-stained wood is beautifully contrasted by inset panels of rich, burgundy velvet on the lid and body. The piece features decorative brass hardware and crucially retains its original working lock and key-a rare survival for tramp work of this era. A striking collector's piece boasting a superb, deep authentic patina. The box interior is unlined. It is in great vintage condition although there is some minor wear commensurate with age.
