Item Details

A 19th-century Italian glazed ceramic decorative dish on ceramic feet. These handmade dishes, traditionally made in the ceramic making centre of Caltagirone, were used to make Cotognata, a sweet jam made from quince.  The themes of decoration centred on religious icons, fruits, flowers, animals and symbols.   Wonderful as decorative items or 'vide-poche'.

 

A - Indented with the word 'CHARITAS' and a flower head - H4, W10 x 13cm

B - Indented with a figure - H4, W10.5 x 13.5cm

C - Indented with two fish - H4, W11 x 13.5cm

D - Indented with a king figure - H3.5, W12 x 15cm

E - Indented with a cherub - H5, W12 x 15cm
