An abstract still life with flower in oil on canvas by Danish artist Karl Larsen (1897-1977).  In dusk tones, with rich, deep highlights of flame red, oxblood and leaf green, which reveal themselves exquisitely under light.   Signed and dated 1943.


Karl Larsen was part of the avant-garde group 'De Fire', who represented the cutting edge of Modernism in 1920s Denmark.  He worked and resided in both France and Denmark during his career, mastering multiple disciplines, including sculpture, marquetry and mosaic making.  He is among the most prominent of Denmark's early-20th-century modernists, and is most known for his paintings of his homeland.
