Item Details

Style: A striking, large scale oil on board work in the American school folk art tradition. The composition showcases an array of vibrant fruit arranged in bowls, accented by delicate floral motifs, all set atop an emerald green tabletop against a sunny yellow backdrop. The piece is framed in a brick red, gilded gesso frame, which has some small repairs on the edges. Paying homage to the style of Spanish painter Miguel Canals (1925-1995).


Story: American folk art, spanning from the 17th century to today, is a tradition driven, functional yet decorative art form crafted by self taught or untrained creators, embodying the rural, communal, and ethnic identities of its makers.
