Style: An ode to folk style these brightly painted hand carved unique elements are from a Sicilian horse or donkey cart. Not identical in style, the designs are both of Saint George and the Dragon. The backs are also painted. Perfect on a country dresser, shelves, mantlepiece, or as bookends or hung on the wall. The final image shows an example of a piece of cart seen in an antique shop in a Sicilian fishing village - you can see the central section depicts one of these pieces. Available individually or as a pair.


Story: The Sicilian cart, or 'carretto siciliano', is a vibrant and elaborately decorated horse or donkey cart that stands as perhaps the most iconic symbol of Sicilian folklore. More than just a mode of transport, these carts are celebrated for their intricate, handcrafted details, including vibrant carvings and paintings. The artwork adorning each carretto often depicts scenes from Sicilian history, folklore, and religion.
