Style: A charming, small 19th-century Rococo revival carved gilt and gesso wall mirror, featuring a gracefully curved carved frame culminating in a bold statement open circular motif, and retaining its original wooden backing.


Story: Renowned for their intricate beauty, gesso mirrors feature meticulously carved wooden frames. Each frame is first prepared with a durable, plaster-like gesso coating, then sumptuously finished with gold leaf. Such mirrors were powerful declarations of wealth and status. The 19th century brought a significant resurgence and imitation of classic Rococo mirror designs.
