Item Description
Antique small 16th century continental chest casket or coffret, pine or beech wood bound with its original leather and retaining its original forged iron lock plate, handle, hinges and strappings. Obvious signs of wear and evidence of historic woodworm (treated), as to be expected with a piece of this age. Structurally the piece is sound, the only defect being a break to one of the hinges (last picture) which is only barely held together. This could easily be fixed with a small dab of super glue, or by welding, however I personally like it the way it was found, and only likely to be an issue if intending to regularly use the piece for storage.
