Item Description
A 19th century carved stone architectural grotesque figure, originally from Castle Carr a large mock-Tudor/Norman manor house in the Calder Valley area, built in around 1859 for Captain Joseph Priestly Edwards by the architect Thomas Risley. This stone was one of a few dozen similar pieces commissioned for the house and salvaged when it was demolished in the 1960s, it has been in a private collection since!
