Item Description

Both 76cm x 64cm A pair of large 19th century (c.1820s) American oil painting, on canvas, depicting a man and his wife, the former probably a kind of seed merchant judging by the bag he holds in his hand and the ledger behind him on the desk. Both canvases have been relined quite recently and so remain very sturdy. The gentleman appears to have been varnished making the surface of the picture shinier than his wife. Condition is very good for age, as pictured.
