19th Century Hand-Carved Italian Gilt Wall Light Fittings (Pair)

An exceptional pair of 19th-century Italian hand-carved pine wall light fittings, finished in original gilt and dating from the mid-1800s. Rich in character and beautifully aged, these striking Baroque/Rococo-style appliqués display an elegant patina acquired over more than 150 years.
Each wall light features five rewired bulb holders, combining historic craftsmanship with modern functionality. It is believed these pieces were originally designed as decorative candle sconces, with candles inserted into the carved floral elements before being sympathetically converted to electric lighting. During the late 19th century, sturdy metal hanging brackets were fitted to the reverse, allowing them to be securely wall mounted.
Highly decorative yet practical, these impressive Italian wall lights make a statement in both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Condition Report
These wall lights are structurally sound and stable, exhibiting age-related wear consistent with their antique age of over 150 years. The gilt surface shows areas of natural wear, including minor losses and chipping, which contribute to their authentic character and are clearly visible in the accompanying photographs.
Both fittings have been professionally rewired with five bulb holders and are configured for a 240V electrical supply. The later metal wall brackets are secure and in good working order.
As with all antique electrical items, we recommend that the wiring is inspected and installed by a qualified electrician before use to ensure compliance with local regulations.
