A rise & fall Italian wall light by Gino Sarfatti

This is a rare example of a mid-20th Century Italian light, the simple wall bracket supporting a telescopic arm & large linen shade, retaining its original in-line counterweight with integrated push switch.

The large lampshade, handmade in Florence, rises & falls when the counterweigh is dropped or raised and the gilt brass has taken on the perfect age-related patina. A smart, sophisticated & elegant lamp that would blend into a stylish interior, recently uncover from a private collection in Italy and this is not a model which turns up very often.

Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985) was a prolific and innovative Italian industrial designer and entrepreneur who revolutionized 20th-century lighting design. He founded the renowned company Arteluce in 1939, creating over 700 lighting fixtures characterized by modern, technical, and elegant designs.

Wired in twisted black flex. Wired to a 3 cord 240v output atm.

Overview
Wear commensurate with age, very good overall, shade contemporary, made in small numbers in Italy. As shown aged scratches on the brass section of support bracket, natural patination across the rest of the brass section. The weight balanced stitch works fine. When fully extended out the weight of the shade does create a five-degree bow in the neck as shown.
