An outstanding example of a mid-19th Century Kashmiri hand painted holy scripture stand. A similar example can be found in Copenhagen at the David Collection of fine Islamic Arts. This fine piece of art is called a “Kursi”, made from wood and hand painted. Some of the most beautiful Kashmiri detail we have seen is displayed on ths piece, covered in floral design, the upper section is detailed with scripture from the holy Quran.
Size of inches: H 11” x W 15” x D 9” Period: 1870 Origin: Kashmir, North India Completely solid in structure and form, with natural wear and patination across all surfaces due to age and use. Faded and loss of detail in sections at the base of the feet.
