Early 20th Century Folk Art Fairground Elephant
We share what we love, and we love this charming and naively formed early 20th century hand craved fairground ride figure. With a delightful folk-art appeal, likely to have been constructed by a fairground showman using hand carved wooden sections and metal support rivetted sheets. The layers of paint are visible as some sections have flaked away. With its original support hole in place on top and underneath. We truly adore this highly decorative figure, and so have named him Nelly. We would assume Nelly is from a children’s amusement ride or sorts and likely to be English or French in origin. A complete one off and in our humble opinion a work of art.

Size in inches Approx.: H 29” x W 37” x D 9”
Condition: Aged
Origin: England / France
Age: Early 20th Century

Completely solid in structure and form, Natural aging across all aged surfaces. There is natural wear from years of use as shown. With crackled aged paint (firmly in place) but loss of painted sections as shown also. The tusks have broken off and the hole has been painted over many years ago. This item weights close of 30kg and stands along without support.
