A mid century old, worn & well English weathered cast composite stone figure of a Poodle. Approximately 12.5 inches in height, with a standing area of 9 inches x 6 inches, weighs around 7 kilograms. Although widely associated with France, interestingly the Poodle is thought to have originated in Medieval Germany as a Duck Hunting Dog. Its name comes from the German word "pudelin" which means "to splash". The Poodles distinctive clip was developed to keep them warm, yet manoeuvrable when in the water retrieving game. In 1631 Rembrandt included a faithful Poodle in a full length self portrait.
