Item Description
A stylish pair of Swedish candlesticks, with lovely patina.
Each bears to the base the wording Gjutet Tenn (pewter), the date and maker marks for Schreuder Olsson designed by Edvin Ollers (1888-1959) in the Grace style, which was the Swedish equivalent of Art Deco.
Dated to around the mid century as per date mark, but can't decipher exact date as yet, possibly 1963.
Pewter is a warm, silvery metal and hardwearing and as shown, look even prettier with tall, slender candles - the colour of these particularly well matched.
Edvin Ollers was a renowned Swedish artist. He studied at the Högre konstindustriella skolan (Higher School of Art and Design) in Stockholm from 1905 to 1909, and at the Gothenburg Museum of Drawing and Painting (Valand Academy of the Arts) in Gothenburg 1909 to 1910. He painted and designed objects in glass, pewter, ceramics. He was one of Swedens leading glass designers in the 20th century.
Ollers mirrors are now often sold for many thousands of pounds.
