A nineteenth century, French copper, sugar bowl. This shape of bowl, with a round base and fixed handles to either side, was used for caramelising sugar when making sweets. This example has quite naively shaped, copper handles and was probably blacksmith made. It is made from a substantial gauge of copper, dates from c.1860 and is in very good condition.
Dimensions: Diameter of bowl 34.4cm. Depth of bowl 15.5cm. Total width across the handles 38.2cm. Total height including the handles 20cm.
