Item Description
A well carved 19th century, sycamore breadboard. This is English and it dates from c.1880. The border is deeply carved with flowers, wheat and long, stylised leaves. The carving is very slightly worn but still has very good depth and detail. There is one split, which is more obvious on the reverse of the board, and there are the usual knife marks to both sides of the board, from use. There is some staining to the reverse, which can be seen in the image, and there is one wood worm hole which has been treated. A hook has been put into the reverse so that it can hang but this does not affect its ability to lay flat on a table.
Dimensions: Diameter 29.4cm. Depth 1.8cm.
