Item Description
A miniature wooden salt box. This type of salt box is usually Scottish, but we have not seen them in miniature before. It is made in strips of different coloured wood and this is banded with a very dark wood. The full sized versions would hang on a wall in the kitchen, to keep the salt dry. This could have been made as a travellers sample or for a child. There is slight chipping to the dark wood banding but other than that it is in good condition. It dates from c.1880.
