Item Description
An unusual, double skinned, English copper coffee pot for keeping coffee warm. This has an inner section for the coffee and an outer section for hot water. The tapered body has nicely shaped, brass handles and tap, with turned wood fittings, and there is a turned wood finial to the lid. Under the lid is a plaque which reads:
“PISTON FREEZING MACHINE Co. COFFEE IN PERFECTION. MANUFACTURERS. ASH’S KAFFEE KANNE. SOLE PROPRIETORS ESTD 1846. LATE OF 3013 OXFORD ST. W. 17 DERINGS LONDON W”.
The Piston Freezing Machine & Ice Company was an early manufacturer of machinery which heated or cooled food and drink, and other kitchen equipment. At the London exhibition of 1862 they exhibited 'freezing vases, refrigerators or ice safes, butter coolers, and every article connected with the ice trade, seltzogenes for making soda water, etc. rotary knife cleaners, and filters'.
This design of coffee pot was registered in 1868 and this example would dates from c.1880. There are a couple of small dents in the outer body but otherwise it is in very good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is still in good enough condition for the piece to be used.
Dimensions: Height 29cm. Width across the handles 15cm. Width including the tap 19cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £30. Most of Western Europe add £15.
