Item Description
A super quality, 19th century, octagonal, sycamore breadboard. This has a very unusual border which is carved with “Waste not Want not” in scalloped cartouches. The words are carved in a very ornate script and there are deeply carved flowers and leaves between the cartouches. All of the carving is beautifully detailed. There is a crack in the board, but this has been filled with wax in order to prevent it from spreading, and there is scratching to the face of the board from use. It is English, dates from c.1860 and the wood has a lovely, pale patina.
