Item Description
A Staffordshire pearlware figure of The Widow of Zaraphath, circa 1790 - 1800, seated with her son at her side, her costume painted in colours and raised on a square marbled base titled 'WIDOW'.
The Widow of Zarephath was celebrated in 1 Kings 17 for sharing her meagre food with the prophet Elijah during a famine. For this show of faith, she is rewarded by God ensuring that her flour and oil never run out and, later, Elijah resurrects her son.
Old lot number to the underside of the base.
Condition: Old professional restoration to the right hand and the bundle in the crook of her arm.
