Item Description
The WRAC - Women's Royal Army Corps, were formed in 1949 as the women’s branch of the British Army. Its members undertook a variety of important roles until 1992, when its remaining personnel were integrated into the Adjutant General's Corps.
This sign for the Officer's Mess is hand painted onto manufactured board, although difficult to date with certainty it's most probably from the 1950s. The lettering is competently, though not professionally done. The sign evidences a life lived; some scuffs and scratches along with rounded corners and worn hanging holes - all par for the course with a piece of functional signage; though nothing that effects the legibility of the piece and it can still be hung with ease.
The sign measures 61cm (2ft) wide x 46cm (18") high.
