Item Description
This large board detailing the 'Operation of the Otto Cycle' (which is the 'thermodynamic cycle' that describes the functioning of a typical petrol car engine) was produced by the British Motor Corporation for use by the British Army. The board can be dated between 1952-'66 as the B.M.C was formed in '52 and changed it's name to British Motor Holdings Limited in '66. The engine pictured in the diagrams is the A-Series engine that was launched by the Austin Motor Co in 1951 and started life in the Austin A30. The little A-Series engine went on to become one of the most common small straight-4 engines in the world, probably most recognised for it's use in the Mini it remained in production until 2000. The board is in reasonable condition, the poster is pasted onto original fibre board and there is some damage to the corners, especially the bottom two. The upper right corner appears to have lifted and been pasted back-down leaving a small mark but the main subject remains clear and the colours (reds) bright. Two small mirror plates have been attached to allow for ease of hanging. The petrol-heads equivalent of the ever-popular medical diagrams/charts, this is a very graphically appealing piece and a lovely bit of motoring history. The board measures 101.5cm wide, 77cm high and is 1cm thick.
