Framed Vintage Castrol Motor Oil Poster

Castrol were pioneers in motor oil development. At the start of the 20th century when the automobile and aeroplane were rising in popularity, Charles Wakefield saw an opportunity to develop specific lubricants for these new engine types - the addition of Castor oil was the revolutionary element - making the oil thin enough to be effective when the engine was cold at start up and thick enough continue to be effective at high temperatures. From here Castrol was born. This un-pasted advertising poster dates to the 1930s/'40s and, as with all paper advertising / ephemera, it is rare to find a surviving example as most would've been stuck to a wall / window and disposed of when new advertising was issued... This piece however has survived in surprisingly good condition. It's printed on a thin, newspaper-like paper stock - typical of posters from the period and this has yellowed slightly giving the poster a warm, vintage aesthetic. There are some light fold lines visible, along with a couple of dark patches and a rectangular mark where the poster has been stored against something, but these all add to the character of the piece rather than detracting from it. This is a lovely, unusual piece of automobilia with the sort of vintage look and feel that just cannot be replicated and would make a good addition to a collection or as a piece of decor in it's own right. The poster has been professionally framed using conservation grade backing paper and is ready to hang. Including the frame it measures 52.5cm wide x 77.5cm high and is 2cm deep.
